How To Become A Jumping Cats Author
Becoming a Jumping Cats author is a fairly straightforward and simple process. Just contact Virginia Sue Sinclair, our
Authors’ Services Coordinator, (virginiasue@jumpingcatspublishing.com)
or Jim Van Laan, our publisher,
(jvanlaan@jumpingcatspublishing.com).
Our Authors’ Services Coordinator is the principal contact and the ombudsman for our authors. If you have any questions or
problems, Virginia Sue is your best contact. If, for some reason, you can’t reach her, you can always contact our publisher,
Jim Van Laan.
Jumping Cats provides two avenues for authors to work with us. The first is what we refer to as “vetted” authors. In this
avenue, Jumping Cats will share all costs equally with you in the production and publication of your work. We will also share
all sales evenly with you. So, it’s a 50-50 proposition both ways. We will share equally with you in both the risk and the
reward.
The second avenue available is an “ala carte” approach. You select the services you want Jumping Cats to provide. We will
develop a contract for you with guaranteed, fixed costs. You will pay the entire costs as detailed in the contract.
The primary difference between the two approaches is that vetted Jumping Cats authors will benefit from our marketing and
promotional efforts and will have their works listed as Jumping Cats published works. They will be included in our catalog
and available for sale directly from our website (as well as all other distribution outlets, including Amazon, Barnes and Noble,
Apple, Ingram, Kobo, etc.). We will provide assistance in additional promotional efforts such as special events, virtual
readings, solicitation of reviews, etc.
“Ala Carte” authors will have all services itemized in the contract provided and completed for the listed prices. However,
promotion and marketing will be the sole responsibility of the author. Further, these works will not be released as
“Jumping Cats” books.
What You Need To Do
First, contact us and express your interest in discussing possible publication further.
To be vetted, you should be prepared to do the following:
Complete our Jumping Cats Evaluation form which will ask you to provide information such as:
- who you think your target audience is
- what the genre of the book is
- the reason you want to publish the book
- the reasons you believe the book could be successful
We will also ask you to provide the following:
- A synopsis of book
- The first 3-10 chapters of book
- your biography and background
If your work successfully passes this initial review and vetting by Virginia Sue’s team, it will be moved up to a review by all
of management and by potential members of your publishing team. If it passes this review, we will prepare a contract for you
that spells out your share of the costs of publication and our commtiments and obligations to you.
Once signed, we will move forward with the publication process, keeping you as involved as you choose to be.
